Overlay network refers to a large-sized telecommunication network on the top of the other networks. Generally, it is designed for special purposes over a net of a different kind of networks or by encrypting task oriented protocol. It fragments the complexity of various networks like cloud computing by decouples architecture. It works as private networking with authorized position or supreme place. Underneath interfaces are encapsulated as pockets which reside as a bunch or inside one another in an overlay network. The use and work of different network operated through encryption and decryption at the endpoint.
Generally, maximum overlay network works on the top of the network which could be a part of other overlay networking system like PSTN (public switched telephone network). It can be implemented for individual use as VPNs (virtual private network) also. Different format of overlay network is peer to peer networking, CDNs (constant delivery networking system and VoIP (voice over internet protocol), etc. These services are very frequent in social networking, video conferencing and private software oriented networking.

Peer to Peer arrangement:
It is an arrangement for the distribution of many simultaneous processing from one node to another through information sharing and multi-processing like many game associate two or more player from the different node during play.

It is a private networking system which is established over many small or secondary network and protocol. It is a convenient and safe option to secure networks privacy and protection from any snooping and stealing as it creates many gateways and entry point with restricted permission, encryption, and protocol. Resilient Overlay Networks:
This kind of arrangement is designed for the improvement and managing complex and huge size network. It is very helpful and convenient in the detection and arranges networking path. It smoothens the network traffic by detecting simple and short communication route between two pairs.
Use of overlay networks:
The primary purpose of overlay networking in telecommunication is the transportation of combined signaling of a telecommunication network and internet protocol (IP) network through digital switches and optical fibers.
On the internet:
overlay network is providing a smooth and congestion free path for data communication over the internet by improving internet routing by developing a host-client running overlay protocol which does not need ISPs association.
